OSHA 10 vs OSHA 30

Same program family. Different hours, different typical jobs, same rule: only an authorized Outreach trainer can issue the card.

The only numbers that are official

Outreach course length is set by OSHA: 10 hours or 30 hours of training delivered by an authorized trainer. Construction and General Industry are separate programs. A “card” is a Department of Labor Outreach completion card, not a license and not a pass on this website.

Trainers decide how they check knowledge. Some use a short quiz. Some use discussion plus a written test. There is no single national “OSHA 30 final exam” with a published question count. Sites that sell “100 real OSHA 30 answers” are not selling the official test — OSHA does not publish that dump.

Who each course is for

OSHA 10 is the worker-level course. It covers Focus Four (falls, struck-by, caught-in/between, electrocution), PPE, ladders, and other intro topics. Many construction and warehouse new-hires are sent to a 10-hour class because a jobsite or city requires the card.

OSHA 30 is the supervisor-level course. It goes longer on the same hazards and adds managing work, more health topics, and more time on how a program is supposed to run. Foremen, safety leads, and people who assign work usually take 30.

If your employer said “get your 10,” do not buy a 30-hour course hoping it substitutes for a 10 you skipped. If they said “get your 30,” a 10-hour card will not meet that requirement.

Construction vs general industry

Pick the program that matches the work. Construction Outreach uses 29 CFR 1926 topics (falls at 6 feet as the usual trigger, scaffolds, trenches). General Industry uses 29 CFR 1910 (walking-working surfaces often at 4 feet, LOTO, machine guarding). A construction OSHA 10 card is not automatically the right card for a factory job, and the reverse is also true. Your trainer and employer should match the program to the site.

California crews: Cal/OSHA Title 8 can be stricter than federal OSHA. An Outreach card does not replace employer training or a Cal/OSHA-required program.

What this site’s practice tests are

The OSHA lab has original multiple-choice items modeled on public standards — not copied from a trainer’s exam. Fall protection is free. The full 808-question bank, flashcards, and mocks are $9.99 for 30 days on this device.

Those passing scores are for this practice lab. Your Outreach trainer’s test can be shorter, longer, or oral. Treat a high score here as “I know the numbers,” not “I earned a card.”

Common questions

What is the difference between OSHA 10 and OSHA 30?

Hours and typical audience. OSHA 10 is 10 hours for workers. OSHA 30 is 30 hours for supervisors and safety leads. Both cards come only from an authorized Outreach trainer after the required hours.

How many questions are on the OSHA 30 exam?

There is no one official OSHA 30 exam. Trainers write their own checks. This site’s 30-style mock is 50 questions (35 to pass). That is practice, not the trainer’s test.

Does OSHA 10 count toward OSHA 30?

No. They are separate courses. You cannot add a 10-hour card up to a 30-hour card.

Is this an official OSHA test?

No. Independent educational practice only. Disclaimer.
